Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

There has been loads of mahi across the school this week for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!  There has been a lot of art made, we have had new words and expressions to practice each day, we learned about place names in te reo and Garden to Table made Rēwena Bread (plus kiwifruit coulis and lemon curd).  Ka rawe!

End of the netball season

Our Year 7 & 8 team had a great season! From looking like they wouldn’t have enough players to recruiting a few newbies and by the end of the season looking like prime Central Pulse players. The team did amazing and improved dramatically. They showed great commitment to training and games, and according to coach extraordinaire Nick, they were a joy to coach. Thanks to all the players, manager Anne and all the parents for help with scoring and game day management.

Writing with Dominic Hoey

This week we’ve had Dominic Hoey come and work with us. He is a fantastic NZ author, poet and playwright who teaches writing to adults and young people. He worked with groups from Year 4 - 8 and his practical tools (not rules) for writing have hopefully inspired a whole new generation of authors! 

Container Art Creation

Next week two artists from Toi Āria; Design for Public Good at Massey University will work with children across the school to create pieces of art that will be compiled into a mural painted on the Community Resilience Container as a part of the Ngā Ngaru Wakapuke project.  The art will be centred around themes of community and the environment of Brooklyn and Vogeltown.  The children will create the art and then artists from the university will paint their work on to the container. 

Once the art is up DIRT  (Disaster Innovation Research and Training) are going to host a Container Party for the community to come together and celebrate their mahi. More details when we get them!
