Bonjour à toutes nos familles

Aotearoa New Zealand Children's Book Week

So many highlights! Massive thank you to our super star librarian Lucy for organising this week and making it choc-ful (little Willy Wonka reference there for you) of fun events.

We had quizzes on Monday, we dropped what we were doing and read on Tuesday, there was a trip to Books Alive for librarians, a book character dress up day and parade and our favourite, tuakana teina / buddy reading on Friday. Happy reading everyone!

Mini-ball tournament

A number of our Year 4 - 6 basketballers went along to the Southern Zones basketball competition on Wednesday. Unfortunately we couldn’t take everyone as they only let us have one team per year level which is super tricky when over a quarter of our school plays basketball! Anyway, those who went had a ball!

PB4L Reward afternoon

We are a PB4L school (Positive Behaviour For Learning) which means we reward all the positive behaviour we see by giving children an R card. The children then vote for the reward they want and this time round it’s a Wheels Afternoon! Bring bikes, scooters, rollerskates, unicycles etc next Friday 28th so the kids can have a fun afternoon of wheeling around.  There are bikes at school they can use if your house is a wheel-free zone.

Lovely hui today

Lots of Excellence Awards for the children who have shown the 4 Rs this term were handed out this morning! Congratulations to them all!

Art as technology

In the Year 7-8 tech class students have enjoyed designing and building from scratch their own bobble head creations and clay houses. They required lots of patience and effort (with a few breakages along the way) but after painting and glazing everyone was pleased with their final pieces.

They’re now doing wearable technology, by learning how to hand sew and make simple circuits to create light up felt badges!

Dropping off in the morning

It seems everyone has got the hang of the drop off zone on Mornington Road in the morning - the video obviously struck a chord!  Maybe we need to make another video about the drop off / pick up zone on The Ridgeway, but before we subject you to that, here’s a wee reminder!
