Volunteer for Garden to Table

We are super lucky with our volunteers for our Year 7 & 8 tech programme.  We have two legends who come and help out in Workshop and we did have four in Garden to Table. Unfortunately one of them has had to go back to the UK to look after a sick parent, so we have lost an afternoon volunteer.  Is there anyone out there who likes gardening and children?  We’d love to have another volunteer to join us in the afternoon on Mondays, from 12.30 - 2.45 to work with a small group of children, a teacher and another volunteer.  We garden, harvest and cook! Let us know if you have any leads!

Also, if you have any special foods in your family that you would be willing to teach the children, let us know.  We’ve heard there are expert roti makers out there!

Handball

Julie took a team of Year 7 & 8 boys to a friendly handball tournament on Wednesday, to help prepare them for the Wellington wide competition that is coming up in August. They played against Tawa Intermediate and Altum Classical Academy and won all their games!  Shout out to the goal scorers Charlie, Neo and Sam!  And thanks Jessie for running the score bench and providing transport.

[If you’re thinking ‘what on earth is handball?’ then you’re not alone. It’s not a sport that’s widely known in New Zealand but is huge in Europe and is the second most popular sport (after football) in lots of European countries. It’s kind of a cross between basketball, soccer and water polo (but without the water).]

Penguin Houses on the South Coast

We were lucky enough to work with Places for Penguins for the big install of the penguin houses this week. It’s pretty cool to see the children making things that will make a positive difference to our local environment! Thanks to all the volunteers who came along and helped and a big shout out to Richard Bentley for all his work with this (and for fixing our broken basketball hoop)!
