Kapa Haka Festival today

Our kapa haka performance group did a great job today, representing us at our local Kapa Haka festival at Wellington High. The boys are kind of hiding at the back in this photo, (except you can see Derek’s bearded mug peeping through) and they all performed incredibly well. When the proper photos come out, we’ll be sure to share them!

Salvation Army

A small group of Year 7 & 8 girls headed down to the Salvation Army last Friday to help out preparing and serving food for the drop-in centre.  We met lots of interesting characters and prepared some exceptionally tasty looking spaghetti and baked bean (not mixed together, we’re not animals) cheese on toast to serve. 

We were told that what the Salvation Army needs most at the moment is personal care items to hand out to those who come in. This includes things like deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, sanitary items etc.  We have a giant wheely bin in the office to collect any items that you may be willing to donate.  Obviously, no obligation here, times are tough etc etc but if you’re able, they would gratefully receive any donations of this nature!

Bringing those bugs to school - 😱😷

We know it’s tempting to help increase our school attendance by sending your child to school when they’re sick, hoping they’ll make it through the day without coughing their way to the sick bay, but please do think of the healthy people at school when you make this decision!  You’ll be pleased to know that our attendance is excellent, so don’t feel you have to send your child when they are sick. In fact, keeping them home instead would be much appreciated! 

Handball Tournament

It’s a craze that’s sweeping the nation - Handball!  Could that be an exaggeration? Who knows! But we entered five teams in the recent school Handball competition at Akau Tangi. For lots of children, this was their first go at a Handball Tournament and it was a really fun day - particularly the giant pretzels (or Brezen) for everyone.

Massive thanks to our own handball legend Julie for organising this and all the parents who came along to support!
