Bonjour à toutes nos familles
Netball Year 1 - 4 and Fustal for everyone!
Please sign up here if your Year 1 - 4 wants to play netball in Term 4 and if your child wants to play futsal.
For the uninitiated, netball is on a Saturday morning and Futsal is on a Wednesday afternoon after school for Year 1 - 4 and on a Thursday after school for Year 5 - 8. Thanks to the Up Foundation there is no cost for futsal or netball in Term 4.
Response from the Mayor
Thank you for your letter raising concerns regarding safety concerns and suggestions for improvements near Ridgeway School, specifically at the Farnham Street / Ridgeway Road / Wentworth Street intersection. My office has discussed these issues with Wellington City Councils Transport Team, and they have provided the below advice and actions regarding your suggestions.
Request for PW-30 or PW-29 Signage
The request for PW-30 or PW-29 signs (pedestrian crossing warning signs) would not be compliant in this case, as these signs are intended for use where the crossing is on the same road. In this instance, the pedestrian crossing is located on the main road, not the side road where the signage has been requested.
As an alternative, WCC engineers will install a “Left Turning Traffic Give Way to Pedestrians” sign. This will better address the issue by reminding turning vehicles to yield to pedestrians already on the main road crossing.
Installation of Broken Yellow Lines
To enhance pedestrian visibility and safety near the crossing, our engineers agree with suggestion of the installation of broken yellow lines helping to mitigate sightline issues caused by parked vehicles. The WCC Transport Team will arrange for this to be progressed.
Raised Pedestrian Crossing
A raised crossing at this location has been assessed by the Transport Team but based on the speed data and crash history, they unfortunately have advised is not considered suitable at this time. They will continue to monitor the location and consider it in future work programmes if conditions warrant.
School Pickup/Dropoff Zone Signage
The proposed change from existing P10 signage to formal “Pickup/Dropoff Zone” signage requires a Traffic Resolution process. The next opportunity to initiate this process will be in February 2026, and Officers have prepared the required documentation for that round.
In addition to these practical improvements, I note that the Council is planning to proceed with lower speed limits outside Ridgeway School under the new NZTA speed limit management rules.
I want to thank you again for raising these concerns and hope that these changes that are in motion as a result will make a real difference to safety for Ridgway School students and the wider community.
