Bonjour à toutes nos familles
Athletics Day
Sadly when we got to Newtown Park this morning to set up the man in charge told us he would have to cancel the high jump, all the throwing activities and he thought the track would be too wet for the long jump. Sitting around all day being cold and wet didn't sound like a great option. We will run a fun sports day at school in Term 4 instead and provide opportunities for our Year 4 - 8s to qualify for Southern Zones in the first couple of weeks of term.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week)
This week we have been celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, which is enjoying its 50th year of being in operation! We have had challenges each day and the children presented some of what they’ve been doing this week at assembly yesterday. There were banners for Athletics Day (sad trombone noise here), labels for the classroom, art pieces and even yoga in te reo! Ka mau te wehi koutou katoa!
Netball for Term 4
We are still looking for players for junior netball in Term 4. It’s pretty fun at that level, with a skills session first so if they don’t know anything about netball they can learn. We currently only have 2 players signed up for Year 1-2 and 11 players signed up for Year 3-4. No one has volunteered to coach yet. You don’t have to know much about netball, it’s more just being a ‘Star Helper’ and helping the team out. Please sign up using this form if your child is keen, we’d love to get a couple more for the Year 3-4 teams and another three for Year 1-2.
There is also still space for futsal players if your child is keen. Futsal all ages Term 4 form.
Basketball
Congratulations to the Ridgway Kereru OGs for winning their division against their arch rivals on Monday! Also, well done to the Ridgway Hawkes who came third in their division.
We still haven’t heard whether this competition is going to run again in Term 4. As soon as we find out, we’ll let the current coaches know.
Strike - 23rd October
Unfortunately, the union (NZEI) has voted to strike. If this goes ahead, school will have to be closed on this day. Hopefully an agreement will be reached before then.
