Bonjour à toutes nos familles

Noho marae

We had an amazing experience at Pipitea Marae last week.  Although not much sleep was had, we had such a great time and met the wonderful tangata whenua of the marae.  Also, a massive shout out to all the parents who came along and helped out! We had the best crew of parents there sorting food, cleaning up, loudly playing cards and shhhh-ing children to sleep. You are the best and we appreciate the time you gave to be there!

Fundraising lunches (order the usual way through lunchonline)

This term, we are doing our own lunches to raise money for camp.  This is what the menu looks like:

11 August - Sausage sizzle (veg option available)

18 August - Cheese toasties

25 August - Rolls

1 September - Fried rice (pork, egg or vegan options)

8 September - Hot dogs (veg option available)

15 September - Cheese toasties

22 September - Sausage sizzle (veg option available)

29 September - Fried rice (pork, egg or vegan options)

You order these lunches the usual way through lunchonline, but have to set up another account.

For the fried rice, we ask that children bring a plate or container from home to avoid us adding to the landfill with disposable plates.

If you are available to help with making these lunches on Thursdays, please let Sarah know.

German lessons

We are excited to again be offering German language lessons. We have found a new German teacher through the Goethe Insitut and you can read about him below. If your child was already learning German with Nina they will automatically go to these lessons. If your child hasn’t been learning German at school and you would like them to, please let Sarah know.

Moin!  Mein Name ist Niklas Kronen und ich komme aus Deutschland.

Good morning!

My name is Niklas Kronen and I come from Germany.

I am excited for the opportunity to support the teaching staff of Ridgway in the new term. I will offer a German language course for all levels and all ages. I am joining Ridgway from the Goethe Institut Wellington where I have been teaching German to students of all ages for the past year.

Before I moved to New Zealand in 2020, I taught German in various roles and in several secondary schools in both Germany and Ireland. I look forward to bringing that experience and my enthusiasm for languages to Ridgway’s classrooms.

Supporting your child with anxiety

We have an educational psychologist coming in to run a session for parents about how to manage your child’s anxiety. This is on Tuesday 30 August from 6 - 7pm.  It will be a fantastic session and we encourage all our parents who have questions around how to support anxious children to come along.

This event has been created with the intention to celebrate the awesome youth in our communities, as well as to increase intergenerational solidarity within our community.
