Julie Scandrett

Associate Principal
Team Leader (Junior School)
Teacher A3

I am very excited to join the Ridgway Team in 2012. It is going to be a great time of development at the school and I feel privileged to be part of the leadership team and a team of very competent teachers during this exciting time. I love Wellington and I am thrilled to be returning to live here again, at last. I have some very special life-long friends living here and a couple of family members, so it will be super to see more of them, once I move here. Becoming an active participant in the school community and getting to know the fabulous Ridgway School students and their families is another very exciting element I am looking forward to. I love learning – therefore I am enthusiastic about sharing this passion with my students and colleagues. I like to have fun and a laugh and I am fortunate to have a great group of friends to share fun times with. I have been teaching at my present school - Gisborne Central School for 10+ wonderful years. Initially I taught a Year 5 and 6 class and then I was offered a position in the Junior Syndicate. I loved working with these little people - it is glorious to see them soak up information like wee sponges and so exciting to observe them develop the skills of learning; becoming readers, writers and mathematicians. During my time in the Junior Syndicate I trained in Reading Recovery and was one of the first teachers to be given an Interactive Whiteboard. I found this new technology to be a superb tool. It helped motivate and engage my students in their learning journey. I was asked a few years later to train teachers in the Gisborne area (out of teaching hours) to use this and many other ICT technology devices. This has been a very rewarding and interesting hobby as I received lots of professional development in this area and met many teachers from throughout New Zealand and International countries at the many conferences I have attended and presented at. I have led Gisborne Central School in the area of learning and Teaching ICT technologies for the last 3 years and have enjoyed facilitating and supporting staff in using the many technological developments we have gone through.  After a period of Acting Deputy Principal and Junior Syndicate Leader at Central School I decided I really enjoyed taking more of a lead role in the school: mentoring other teachers, being a part of a positive Leadership Team. I was also very fortunate to be chosen to participate in the National Aspiring Principal's Programme in 2010 and I look forward to further developing these leadership skills in my role as Associate Principal at Ridgway and while leading Ridgway's Junior Syndicate

Andrew Knight

Teacher, A4

I joined Ridgway at the beginning of 2010 after two and a half years teaching in Te Puke and six years in the United Kingdom. Earlier I completed a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching in Christchurch. I have previously taught Year 3-6 students.

Teaching for me has many ‘best moments’ and they occur every day. Outside of teaching, though, I enjoy spending time with my wife and baby daughter, travelling and seeing the many sights New Zealand has to offer. Soccer and tennis are other joys as is gardening when I have the time. I would love to read books if there were more than 24 hours in a day!

Ingrid Hyde

Teacher, A5

I started my teaching career at Otonga School in Rotorua before a stint at Churton Park School. When I have spare time I love to spend it with family and friends.

Sue Campbell

Sue Campbell

Associate Principal
Team Leader (Middle & Senior School)
Teacher, B2 (Year 3/4)
Sustainability Facilitator for EnviroSchools
Numeracy Lead Teacher

I have 11 years’ teaching experience in primary schools and during the past two years have been working for Accent Learning – Victoria University as an Education Adviser in Numeracy and Education for Sustainability.

My role at Victoria University required me to facilitate workshops, conduct staff meetings, model lessons and give feedback and individual coaching to teachers and often the staff as a whole within the contexts of Mathematics and EfS (Sustainability). While at Victoria I also had the opportunity to work with Ridgway teachers advising in Sustainability and in Numeracy.

In addition, I’ve assisted schools to identify and examine how to improve outcomes for underachieving students, conducted workshops on National Standards, guided schools through self-review processes, helped schools to gather data to measure progress and explored with schools cross curricula links and the implementation of the New Zealand Curriculum.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Education and a Diploma in Teaching.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy a role as a committee member for the Wellington Neo-Natal Charitable Trust and I love cycling, running and swimming. My greatest sporting achievement is completing the gut-busting 160km Taupo Challenge – 160km around Lake Taupo.

I’m looking forward to working with a passionate group of teachers and to getting to know, and be part of, Ridgway’s very tight knit school community.

DanielDaniel Crow

Teacher, C1

Having taught English for six years, I came to New Zealand to study, completing my Graduate Diploma in Teaching in 2009. Last year I taught year 7 and 8 students; this year I am teaching year 5/6 students. It’s wonderful seeing the energy students bring to their learning and the progression they make.

Outside of teaching I follow motor sport, enjoy exploring New Zealand on two wheels and four, snowboard and practice yoga.

Colette de Vere Green

Teacher, C2
Sustainability coordinator at Ridgway
Netball coach

I got into teaching simply because I love working with, and am inspired by, children. I had friends who were teachers and felt it was something I could do. I find it a dynamic environment to work in, with endless learning opportunities and challenges. It keeps me on my toes.

I trained to be a teacher in London and spent four years teaching there before I travelled and taught English as a volunteer in Vietnam and India. After a year in Newtown School, three years at Clyde Quay and another stint as an ESOL teacher in France, I joined Ridgway in 2008.

When I get spare time I love to read historical novels, walk, tramp, camp, swim in the sea and spend time with my kids. In the future I would like to climb mountains, parlez le français couramment (speak French fluently), live closer to my family (though I love NZ) and continue to be a good parent for my children.

Support and Release Staff

Sarah Mayo

Release teacher for all classes

I have been at Ridgway as a relief teacher for a few years and really enjoy working through the whole school. I have taught at a few schools in the Wellington area while raising my family and always enjoy the challenges and rewards of working with the children. My spare time is with my family and friends, reading and watching a bit of sport.

Andrea Faull

Learning Support / ESOL Tutor (Teacher Aide)

I moved to Wellington with my husband, Bruce, three years ago. My job at Ridgway School is varied and very enjoyable. I work with Special Needs children in programmes designed to meet their specific needs. Examples are: Precision Teaching, Rainbow Reading, Maths Support, Scaffolded Reading and Paired Writing.

I also work with our ESOL (English Speakers of Other Language) students.

My qualifications of Teacher Aide Certificate and a Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychology have helped me significantly with my job.
