Board of Trustees 2020 Term 4 Newsletter

Kia ora tatou!

We hope you're having a good Term 4. There are lots of exciting activities happening around the school.
Last week the new skills features section of the bike track was officially opened. Particular thanks to Mike Barker and the parents and students from Ridgway and Brooklyn schools who spent hours designing, fundraising for and constructing the amazing skills features. Also many thanks to Wellington City Council and the sponsors of the individual skills features whose names are on signs on each feature.

It is great to see people from the wider community coming to enjoy the track and practice their bike skills.

Are you interested in joining the Board of Trustees?

The Board is responsible for the governance of our school and supports the principal and teachers to make sure that the school is run in the best interests of our students and our community.

A member of the Ridgway Board has resigned, and this position can either be filled by selecting a new member or by holding a by-election. The Board has decided to fill the current vacancy by selection and therefore is required to give the following notice:

Ridgway Board of Trustee Casual vacancy for an elected trustee

A casual vacancy has occurred on the Ridgway board of trustees for an elected parent representative.

The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection.

If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.

Request for a by-election should be sent to: Chairperson ridgwaybot@gmail.com
Or by post to Ridgway School, 120 Mornington Road, Brooklyn, Wellington 6021
by: Friday 11th December 2020

If there is no request to hold a by-election we will be looking to fill the vacancy before the start of Term 1 2021. If you are interested in finding out more about joining the board please chat to one of the current members or email us on ridgwaybot@gmail.com. You are also welcome to attend our next meeting on Wednesday 2 December at 6.30pm in the school staff room to see what it is all about. There are also sometimes opportunities to get involved and assist the board on particular projects. We really appreciate your support and involvement!

Strategic plan

Our strategic plan sets out our school community's aspirations for our school for the next three years and guides the Board's decision making and the school's annual planning. Please have a look at the strategic plan on the school website: http://www.ridgway.school.nz/Site/Board/strategic_plan.aspx

School policies

Just a reminder that if you would like to read our school policies these can be accessed through SchoolDocs - follow this link for instructions: http://www.ridgway.school.nz/Site/Board/policies.aspx

Property update

You will all have noticed that the Big Space and Rooms 6-10 are fenced off and ready for demolition. For the latest information please see our Building Diary which is kept up to date with progress on this exciting project.

Zone and special status for Ruru

Our current roll is 246 students which is above the 227 students which our new school is being built for. This means that we must manage our roll with an enrollment scheme. Following consultation in Term 3, our enrolment scheme and home zone have been approved by the Ministry of Education and will be in effect from the beginning of 2021. To view our home zone go to the enrolment page on our website.

The Ministry of Education have approved our French-English bilingual programme as a special programme under Section 11B of the Education Act. This means that we can accept out of zone students into Ruru La Chouette who meet the enrolment criteria, provided there is space in the class and in the school.
