Newsletter Monday 13th August
Kia ora parents
What a busy term we have coming up.
NZEI Strike Day - Wednesday 15th August
While they fully expect most children to remain home on Wednesday 15 August, the Board of Trustees have decided that Ridgway School will remain open. There will be 3 teachers available to provide supervision for students but parents should note that this is not a “fun day” and neither is it a normal day of learning. We ask that parents do not offer going to school as a choice for their children, but do their best to find their own child care for the day.
Thank you to those parents who have let us know their intentions for the day. If you haven’t yet let us know, follow this link and tell us if your child will be coming to school or not on Wed 15 August
PB4L Reward Disco – Thursday 16th August in te Wharenui (Big Space).
Years 1 to 3 - 4.30pm to 5.45pm
Years 4 to 8 – 6.00pm to 7.30pm
The theme for the Year 1 - 3 is Superheroes - come dressed as your superhero or Disney character.
For Years 4 - 8, the disco theme is Red Carpet, come dressed in your fanciest clothes. There will be prizes for best dressed, great dancing and more!
Children may wish to bring money to buy food, drinks and glow sticks at the disco. The items for sale are $1 and $2. All money raised will be going towards the Year 7 and 8 camp.
10 minutes prior to the end of each disco we invite parents to join us in a final dance, prior to collecting your children. Don’t be shy, it is our chance to share our celebration with you! 5 minutes prior to leaving, all children are expected to remain and help tidy up, reinforcing our value of Responsibility. If you could help reinforce this message it would be much appreciated.
Parents please note: Children will not be released from our supervision until a parent has come to te Wharenui (big space) to collect their child.
We look forward to seeing you all there!

Te Reo Maori
We are offering an extension te reo lesson on Wednesdays. To be selected for this group your child needs to know their whakapapa and be able to share this. They also need to have a family member at home who is able to support the learning with their own knowledge. This group will be taught by Pam Clarke and will cover tikanga and te reo. This is an extension group and will supplement the te reo that is currently being taught at the classroom level. If there are any parents out there who would be able to come in and run an activity related to any of these areas we would love to make the most of your expertise. We are thinking science experiments, building structures, robotics and coding but the options really are limitless. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you want more information or are able to help.
Last day of the term is Friday 28th September. Students will be released at 3.00pm for a well earned rest after such a busy term.
