Our Principal

Ridgway school principal Danae Heinz

Danae Heinz

It gives me pleasure to welcome you to Ridgway School, a small school with just over 200 students overlooking the bush-clad Brooklyn hills.

Our mission is to provide a safe, caring and positive learning environment for all our students, where they are encouraged and challenged to achieve to their potential and to become life-long learners.

I am confident that you will receive a warm and cheerful welcome from a friendly staff and parent community who care greatly about our school and our students.

I am proud to be Ridgway’s principal and look forward to working with you to continue to make our school a great place to be, and where every student leaves the school with the skills and confidence to participate in secondary education.

About Danae

I have taught at all levels of the school throughout my teaching career  - from New Entrants to Year 8.  I  held several management positions in Auckland and I came to Wellington in April 2000  because my husband  was appointed to a new position here. I  took up the position of Principal at Ridgway.

I always wanted to be a teacher – perhaps because I had a younger brother who was always willing to be my ‘student’!

I especially love working with children on reading, writing and the arts as well as working with special needs children (I have teaching diplomas in Teaching Children with Special Needs and School Management).

Spare time is a bit of a luxury, but when I do get it, I love to read – and go to the movies. This is how I unwind! Walking is another favourite past-time - especially along beaches around Wellington.

Catching up with family in Auckland and Christchurch is always a highlight !
