Board of Trustees - Term 3 Newsletter 2021

Kia ora koutou,

We hope you are keeping warm and thank you for your patience as we navigate a school environment with level 2 covid restrictions.

Staff thank you

The Board wishes to extend our thanks to Tawatawa-Ridgway’s principal, teachers and staff for their hard mahi schooling our tamariki during lockdown. We really appreciate the smooth transition to online learning and your mahi to create interesting activities for the students in an online and home setting.

Now in level 2, thank you for your continued efforts to keep the school community safe and your continuing commitment in an environment of hand sanitising, masks and uncertainty. Tino pai!

Survey of lockdown

We are keen to hear about your family’s experience of schooling during lockdown and whether the school could do things differently if there is another lockdown in the future. Please help us by filling in this short survey.

School rebuild

Our new school building is making good progress and the building is taking shape. It’s exciting to be able to see what it will eventually look like. There is a building diary where you can keep up to date with the project.

New school logo

To be ready for our move into our new school building we want to update our school logo, in particular to incorporate our new te reo name. The school has worked with a designer to come up with some designs based on our current logo and colours. The design portrays our connection to the local environment of the ridgeline and the Brooklyn wind turbine.

The board will be making a decision on the suggested designs which can be viewed here If you’d like to give some feedback on these designs to help the board make this decision please do so here.

Board meetings and seeking more board members

All members of our community are welcome to come to a board meeting to see what goes on or speak on a particular matter, please let us know in advance if you would like to attend. We meet twice a term, usually in week 2 and week 8.

We are looking for more board members, if you are interested in joining the board please get in touch. It involves attending two evening meetings a term and some additional time preparing for the meetings.

School policies

The school policies and procedures can be accessed from our website - School policies

Please have a look at these (especially the “Parents and whanau” section). The board reviews these policies from time to time - if you think a policy should be reviewed please get in touch with the board.

Kahui ako

Our school is part of a group of schools in South Wellington called the Capital City Kahui Ako. Representatives from the schools meet regularly to:

  • collaborate across communities

  • provide effective and seamless transitions as tamariki move through the school system in the area, and

  • build positive partnerships within, across and through communities, whānau and iwi.

The Kahui Ako is doing lots of excellent work for the schools in our community, in particular around cultural identity, hauora and wellbeing, and future focussed learning. You can find out more: https://capitalcitykahuiako.weebly.com/
